A special commemorative hallmark to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has been approved.
The Diamond Jubilee hallmark depicts a young Queen Elizabeth wearing a crown in a diamond shaped surround.
The optional mark can be struck on gold, silver, platinum or palladium from 1st July 2011 until 1st October 2012.
The announcement of the Diamond Jubilee hallmark represents a welcome commercial opportunity for the UK jewellery and giftware industry.
A hallmark consists of a series of marks applied to gold, silver and other precious metals by an assay office, and guarantees that the article has been independently tested for purity.
Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952 and next year will become the second monarch in British history to have reigned for sixty years.
